EDGE Facilitation Training is designed for organisations working in complex, youth-facing environments — where behaviour is unpredictable, emotions run high, and facilitators must make sound decisions in the moment.
Developed by Kalianah Outdoors, EDGE builds the professional judgement, confidence, and practical facilitation capability required to work effectively with young people in dynamic and often high-pressure settings.
Rather than classroom theory, EDGE uses experiential learning, Adventure-Based Learning (ABL), and real-world facilitation scenarios to strengthen the skills staff rely on every day in youth programs, community services, and youth justice-adjacent environments.

Participants learn by doing, reflecting, adapting, and applying — ensuring the learning transfers directly back into their programs and their organisations.
EDGE is built for practitioners who work with people — not classrooms.
EDGE focuses on the capabilities that determine whether a program is merely delivered — or genuinely effective.
After completing EDGE, organisations typically see:
Stronger facilitator judgement
Staff become more confident making decisions in unpredictable environments.
Improved group facilitation
Teams learn how to work with group dynamics, resistance, disengagement and escalation.
Greater team consistency
Shared frameworks, language and expectations strengthen program quality across staff.
Practical engagement tools
Facilitators gain practical approaches for engagement, boundaries, reflection and safety.
Skills that transfer directly to real programs
EDGE is designed so learning moves immediately back into day-to-day delivery — not just theory.

Most facilitation training is designed for predictable environments.
EDGE is built for the environments where many organisations actually operate.
Environments where:
• behaviour escalates
• groups test boundaries
• emotions run high
• staff must manage risk and responsibility simultaneously
EDGE develops facilitators who can operate confidently in these conditions.
EDGE uses adventure-based learning and experiential activities to replicate the complexity facilitators face in real programs.
Participants learn how to manage group dynamics, disengagement, escalation and risk — not simply deliver activities.
EDGE recognises the influence of trauma, culture and context on behaviour and engagement.
Facilitators develop situational awareness and decision-making skills so they can adapt when circumstances change.
EDGE is not delivered as a fixed course. Each program is shaped to reflect your staff capability, participants and operational environment.
EDGE is built for organisations working in complex service environments, including:
• Youth at risk programs
• Youth justice-adjacent services
• Indigenous-led organisations
• Community service programs
• Alternative education providers
• Experiential learning and outdoor programs
Many organisations have staff who are committed and capable but have never been trained to facilitate groups in high-complexity environments.
EDGE closes that gap.
EDGE is delivered as a 4–5 day on-site professional development program facilitated by two experienced Kalianah Outdoors facilitators.
Training combines:
• Experiential learning activities
• Facilitation frameworks
• group dynamics training
• scenario-based learning
• reflection and debrief practice
Programs are designed collaboratively with each organisation to ensure the training reflects real operational environments.
